Ketandan, the Chinatown areas in Yogyakarta Indonesia

Indonesia has many diversity including acculturation of culture. Contact from the meeting of two different cultures into one adds to the cultural richness in Indonesia. One of them is Chinese culture that has long existed in Indonesia. In Yogyakarta, the Chinatown area entered since the 1860s, where Ketandan village was the center of Chinese settlements in the Dutch era. Ketandan, located east of the Malioboro area, is one of the Chinatown areas in Yogyakarta that has a strong identity and history. Based on observations, the author see that the Ketandan village area in Yogyakarta is only crowded if there are certain events, so that on weekdays it seems quiet especially in the village corridors. Over time, some of the inhabitants of the village changed the facade of the original building that led to the modern style and the lack of attributes and other Chinese components in Ketandan. This can trigger the fading character of the Chinatown in Ketandan.
